Sightseeing Sunday: “God’s Own Country”

One of the southernmost states of India, Kerala truly is (in my own personal opinion, at least) the fairest of them all. Affectionately known as “God’s Own Country” (also the official tourism slogan of the region), it is beautiful. Actually, it’s more than beautiful. The English language fails me when I’m trying to think up a word strong enough to describe the state but, if you’re mildly versed in Spanish, just imagine someone saying “increíble” with all the gusto and emphasis normally used. Then multiply it by 5000. And that is how I feel about Kerala. Despite belonging to a…

The Turn of the (Quarter of a) Century

Three hours from now (or, like, right now by the time I hit publish), I’ll no longer be a sprightly two-dozen years old; instead, I’ll be ENTERING MY SECOND QUARTER-CENTURY ON EARTH.  Um, excuse me what?! From tomorrow I’ll be closer to fifty than I am to being born, which is just a wee bit of a scary thought. No, scratch that. It’s absolutely %$#@ing terrifying. Because, although I don’t quite remember the moment I was born (which, FYI, I’m not sad about as I’ve heard that whole giving birth and having birth given to you thing can be quite traumatic),…

ABC Travel Tag

Once upon a time, many moons ago the lovely Kia from Aspire to Amble nominated me to take part in the ABCs of Travel Tag, a nice little quiz type post which seems to be the perfect way to unashamedly drone on about myself without coming across as narcissistic and self-obsessed. Score. Kia not only has one of the most colourful travel blogs I’ve ever seen (she uses a rainbow of colours for her sub-headings and paragraphs, and sometimes I just sit there and look at her posts without actually reading them because they’re so pretty. Then I do, of…

Sightseeing Sunday: My Favourite Travel Photos

Operation “Clear out Dropbox so I can stop paying £7.99 a month for something I most certainly don’t need” is a go. I signed up for what was then a Dropbox Pro, but is now a Dropbox Plus account well over a year ago when I was a good few months and approximately 2,593,213,984 photos deep in my relatively lengthy trip around the world. I’d accidentally gone a meagre few MB over my 2GB limit, and those pesky rascals over at Dropbox HQ wouldn’t let me access my other photos until I a) delete some photos or b) pay to…

Seeking Predictability in the Paper Boy

Every morning on my way to work, I cycle past the same smiley guy handing out free copies of the Metro to everyone he sees. It doesn’t matter whether I zoom past at 7:15, 8:30 or 9:30, come rain or shine he’s out there donning his red coat, black cap and big ol‘ grin for everyone to see.  There’s only one time I’ve ever not seen him there, and on this occasion in his place stood an old man with greying hair and the opposite of a smile on his face. I don’t want to be dramatic or anything, but…
